July 2018 newsletter
Bonjour!
Hello friends,
This has been quite an exciting month! The Lost Vintage came out on June 19th, and we celebrated the launch with events at DC's *newest* branch of Politics & Prose at Union Market and the ever-so-chic Sézane boutique in New York City. A few days later, I headed to Paris, where we toasted the book with my favorite Champagne at La Cuisine Paris. Most of all, I have loved hearing from those of you who have read the book – thank you so much for reading! I'm so grateful for your support, whether it's a review on Amazon or GoodReads, or placing a hold on the book at your library – I appreciate everything.
This is a slightly rushed newsletter because I'm on deadline for a million things. I am absolutely thrilled to be spending the summer in my beloved City of Light, writing articles, traveling to see family and friends, and starting a new novel...? Stay tuned! I wanted to say hi, and also let you know that I'll be taking over my publisher's Instagram feed today, July 12 (starting in the morning in the US). I hope you'll follow along at @WilliamMorrowBooks for my Paris photos and stories!
Here's what else I've been up to...
What I've been eating
Okay, yes, there here have been a lot of buttered tartines. And also a lot of Picard. But there have also been the most succulent peaches, nectarines, apricots, and the juiciest, most fragrant French melons. We also made and devoured crunchy fishcakes from Mardi Michel's brilliant new cookbook In the French Kitchen with Kids. And I can't stop thinking about my new favorite chicken curry, cooked from from Mallika Basu's wonderful new book, Masala.
What I've been reading
–I wrote about my love for libraries and one library in particular: the American Library in Paris.
–My dear friend Kristin Espinasse kindly hosted me on her blog, French-Word-a-Day, for a post about cheese puffs – and things went awry in strange and hilarious ways (read the comments).
–Dorie Greenspan's NYT magazine column brought back sweet memories of our Amalfi coast honeymoon and now I can't wait to bake this lemon breakfast cake.
–This story about escaped French convict Redoine Faid is bananas (hello, hijacked helicopter?).
–I talked to Kitchn about how I feed my daughter in France.
–I loved The Late Bloomers' Club the new novel from my friend, Louise Miller, set in Vermont, and as cozy and cheery as a campfire. Mark your calendars, it comes out July 17!
A bientôt!
This weekend we are excited to visit my parents in London – hooray for afternoon tea parties and (hopefully) cooler temps! I'm also following the World Cup with bated breath – and even if I wasn't, my neighbors keep me abreast of the matches via their exuberant cheers. Allez les bleus!
Have a lovely month – don't forget to add The Lost Vintage to your to-read shelf on Goodreads – and I'll see you in August!
Amitiés,
Ann
